The LEVERS family

This website is dedicated to the history of the Levers family that originated in the West Country of England (the counties of Devon & Cornwall). All members of this family are descended from John Lavers (sometimes spelt Lavors) who was born about 1590. To put this in historical context the attempted invasion of England by the Spanish Armada took place in 1588.

The detailed information contained on this site is almost entirely the work of Denzil Levers. It is the result of many years of painstaking and detailed investigation that Denzil undertook, mostly before the availability of the internet and the vast amount of useful information available there.

As far as is known this LEVERS family has no connection to the LEVERS family that originated in the Nottinghamshire area of England. To see details of that family's website click here.

So far a total of 13 generations of the West Country Levers family have been traced and documented. Only the names of living members of the family have been included here to preserve their privacy.

Although descended from John Lavers most of the research is confined to the LEVERS family line - the only Lavers interest is prior to about 1650. If you think that you may be related to this LEVERS family, or have any information or questions about this family's history please e-mail . We would also be pleased to hear of any LAVERS in East Cornwall prior to 1620. If you find any problems with the site, for example missing or broken links an e-mail to would be appreciated.
